The volunteering program here at Swansea High offers students the opportunity to build a sense of community pride and respect as they participate as active citizens within their community.
Students in Year 9 visit a selection of local centres, donating their time whilst gaining valuable communication and decision making skills.
Students are eligible to register for the NSW Premier's Student Volunteering Awards Program as a result of their participation. The program encourages students to complete a minimum of 20 hours volunteering during Years 9 & 10 rewarding their efforts with recognition from The Department of Education and Communities, which looks great on a student's resume.
Students can also log hours for out of school volunteering such as surf lifesaving and sport coaching.
Fundraising is also available here at Swansea High. Students are provided with the opportunity to work as a team to support a variety of organisations, of their choosing, in their important work. They cover nationwide foundations such as the Cancer Council, Leukaemia Foundation and Jeans for Genes.
Activities are planned, promoted and carry out by the students, with the support and guidance of teaching staff.
All volunteering activities at Swansea High aim to increase students' self-confidence and awareness by providing them with the opportunity to try something new and have fun at the same time.
